The Global World of 'Smart Transportation'

Continues the trend of the past year with cyber attacks expanding in various channels in this sector in the first half of 2025

May 1, 2025

This is reflected in the following diverse areas:

Security weaknesses exposed in vehicles

Public transportation services, such as ticketing systems

Disclosure of information and/or information leakage of customer data from third-party systems that support the transportation sector

Disabling critical information systems used to operate airports

Increase in the use of high-quality malware against transportation entities

Attacking third-party systems used as part of traffic light systems

At the same time, it can be seen this year that awareness of the aspects and meanings of cybersecurity among vehicle manufacturers (Tier-1), companies that produce infrastructure saturated with intelligence for the sector (Tier-2),and importers of means of transportation is rising!

This is reflected in new content emerging at cybersecurity conferences for 'Smart Transportation' that present long-term security needs and strategies alongside 'threat maps' and key gaps for a variety of transportation infrastructures, new security capabilities from transportation equipment and platform manufacturers that come as an inherent part of technological means to support transportation infrastructures, a broader and better understanding of the significance of security issues in transportation supplychains, and an indication of additional needs to improve existing regulation on the issue.

A key goal that we have set for ourselves at the 'Israel National Cyber Center for Smart Transportation' in 2025 is to establish and expand the human resource capabilities and professional tools to perform resilience tests and unique technological studies on advanced transportation means, as part of ongoing assessments and preparedness for customers in Israel and around the world!
